Designing a website is so much more than just making things look pretty. It’s making things work well to meet your objectives. A website is an interface to your ideas. It expresses your business visually. What it tells people and how it communicates is just as important. I like to approach web design in a holistic fashion, letting who you are, what you want to say and who you want to talk to dictate the outcome.
Content Management (CM) is a combination of process and technology used to present information on the web. A good CM solution will allow you to write, publish and edit content via your website to ensure that your business goals are achieved efficiently and accurately.
Lots of pieces have to come together in a successful website project. Regardless of the size, goals need to be set, audiences need to be identified, content needs to be written and interfaces need to be designed. When I sign up to work on a project, I dedicate myself to making the process run smoothly and maintain open communication to minimize any bumps in the road that are likely to pop up.
Blogs are a special beast. If you plan on consistently updating content on your site, a blog can be a great tool. I’ll explain what makes a blog a blog and help you understand if a blog is a solution that will fit your needs and resources. See the blogs that I have developed.
All work that I produce is compliant with the most recent standards set forth by the WWC for XHTML and CSS. Websites are tested in multiple browsers on all common platforms. I use the vastly popular WordPress for blog implementation. The work that I do for Cornell University is produced using CommonSpot as a CMS. For smaller CMS instances I use Expression Engine.
